HUNTER DELVES
Artist statement & CV
Artists Statement.
My current work focuses on the links between Mythology, Religion, phycology, Physics and Science. Attempting to find a common thread that weaves them all together within space and time. My latest piece is an immersive sensory installation that guides an individual through a series of sensory experiences exploring the ancient term “The dark night of the soul”. The term relates to time in ones time when you lose sense of faith, a disconnectedness with the social, physiological and physical world you have constructed around yourself, what modern day doctors would now call a depressive episode. The installation aims to finds a way to navigate your way through these experiences by weaving traditional narratives of the sublime and creation theories with the scientific fields of quantum entanglement and Galactic chemical evolution as a way of finding a sense of understanding and connection with the world. The work also uses original skyscape paintings as a final point of optimism, and also uses traditional use of sound and ritual to create and induce a sense of enlightenment. Having used sound for many years in workshops and as a healing tool the work explores scientific research and findings to find the traditional reasoning for the use of instruments as a healing tool. Then work has a strong leaning on our connectivity with the natural world, not as a human experience of engaging with it, but aiming to highlight the idea that we are nature, an intrinsically entangled part of a living web that spreads not just across the surface of the planet but far into space, time and the cosmos.
