Welcome to my online Journal where i hope to share my thoughts, feeling, inspirations, processes, problem solving, and completed works as well as works in progress.
Before deciding on what approach to take with my new film i looked at several different films and ideas from the past to see which inspired me the most. The ones i found most influential were as follows.........
SWAMP - Robert Smithson and Nancy Holt 1969. I liked the natural element to this work....the way the humans were enveloped by nature. I didn't like the way the man was bossing the lady about and wish she was left to move freely and instinctively through the reed-bed on her own. I found his voice distracted from the work.
MEASURES OF DISTANCE - Mona Hatoum - 1988. The deep sentimentality to this work really inspired me. From an editing point of view i liked the way the two scenes were overlaid and meshed together. The tone of the piece is what i hope to capture in my own film.
SPACE BASS - Constance Demby - 1980. Being a lover of sound healing and running my own sound baths at retreat centers i have a great love for this pioneering lady. She made her own instruments out of recycled materials in the hope of finding different sounds and frequencies to heal the human body....will definitely use sound in my piece after seeing this!!! Though will obviously choose a different outfit!!!! eeeek!
